Trustee since 2022

Why I'm running

A mom who learned to fight for her kids — and wants to fight for yours.

I'm a longtime resident of this school division and a mom of three. Like many parents, I didn't set out to run for office. I ran because my children needed an advocate — and I wanted to help make our education system better for all students.

Two of my children have learning disabilities, and I experienced firsthand how difficult it can be for families to get the support their children need. Each of my children has had different needs, and those experiences shaped my decision to run: to have a voice in the decisions that shape our schools and to make a positive difference in the lives of students and families.

I believe kids succeed when they know they're valued and have the right tools and support to succeed. I bring a student-centred, community-focused and collaborative approach to the role, guided by four values that matter to me: transparency, accountability, equity and inclusion.

Being a trustee also means doing the important work that isn't always visible — approving budgets, overseeing contracts, asking difficult questions and making sure decisions are responsible, lawful and in the best interests of students. Over the past four years, I've developed a strong understanding of education governance and the responsibility that comes with serving this community. Since being elected in 2022, I've taken an active role in the work of the Board, including committee work, negotiations, connecting with families and attending events throughout our schools and community.

What I love most is seeing what our students accomplish — from winter concerts and vocational programs to the students recognized at special events. That's the payoff.

Being a trustee is about making a meaningful difference: improving the quality of education and our students' learning environments, making sure programs meet their needs, and ensuring the decisions we make reflect what matters to our community.

A record of results

Four years of work you can see in our schools.

Over the past four years, I've worked with fellow trustees, staff, families and our community to make practical improvements across River East Transcona.

01

A New School for a Growing Community

Secured a new 800-student K–8 school in Devonshire.

RETSD advocated for a larger school than originally planned, helping ensure growing neighbourhoods have the space they need — including 134 new child-care spaces.

02

More Space at École Regent Park

Expanded École Regent Park to meet growing enrolment.

The expansion added classrooms and a new gymnasium, giving students more room to learn, play and participate in school activities.

03

More Pathways to Skilled Trades

Expanded access to technical-vocational education.

New intensive programs allow students to stay connected to their community school while earning technical-vocational credits — opening more pathways toward careers and apprenticeships.

04

Stronger Mental Health Supports

Expanded mental-health and substance-use supports into the middle years.

Additional supports and online options help students access assistance earlier, when they need it most.

05

Renewing an Aging Bus Fleet

Started a long-term plan to replace aging school buses.

The 2025–26 budget included eight new buses, improving reliability while helping RETSD keep pace with enrolment growth.

06

A Stronger Voice for Families

Expanded opportunities for families and the community to be heard.

RETSD's enhanced engagement work included a division-wide survey with more than 1,400 responses and a Community Education Forum bringing together parents, students, educators and community members.

07

Expanding Advanced Learning

Improved access to advanced academic and specialized programs.

RETSD expanded access to opportunities including Advanced Placement, STEAM and technical-vocational programming so students across the division have more choices to pursue their interests and strengths.

08

Advancing Treaty Education

Strengthened understanding of treaties and reconciliation.

More than 3,600 RETSD staff participated in comprehensive treaty education, helping educators better understand treaty relationships and bring Indigenous perspectives into student learning.

Four years of showing up

A record of service, not just attendance.

My priorities

What I'll keep working on

Your Voice. Their Belonging. Their Well-being. Their Safety. Their Schools. Our Growth. Our Responsibility.

Student & Family Voice

Be accessible and accountable to the people I represent.

Listen to students, families and staff, bring their concerns to the Board, and follow through.

Every Student Belongs

Make sure every student has the support they need to succeed.

Champion inclusive schools where individual needs are recognized, respected and supported.

Student Mental Health

Keep strengthening mental-health and well-being supports.

Support programs that help students build resilience, self-awareness, healthy relationships and the skills they need to thrive.

Safer School Zones

Make getting to and from school safer.

Work with the division, City and community to improve safety for students, families and motorists around our schools.

Safe, Healthy Schools

Make sure schools are safe, clean and welcoming places to learn.

Keep a focus on bullying prevention, air quality, cleanliness, safety and respect for every student.

More Schools for Growing Neighbourhoods

Keep advocating for the new schools our communities need.

One new school was a start — not the finish. I'll keep pressing the province for more schools so families in growing neighbourhoods aren't left waiting.

Responsible Use of Public Funds

Protect the classroom while respecting taxpayers.

Make careful decisions about spending, look for efficiencies and keep taxes as affordable as possible while maintaining quality programs and services.
